Along with “Paste”, “Copy” is one of the keyboard shortcuts I use the most. I find myself sometimes re-using the same lines of code or CSS, and pasting them in a notepad document for quick access.
There has to be a better way. I know Office has tried (and failed as far as I know), to create a clipboard manager that allowed you to store and retrieve several items. Now I’m looking for something that’s easy to use, and works globally in Windows. Your advice is welcome.
Update: CLCL does everything I need! My warmest recommendations. I use ALT + V as my manager shortcut.
I have a tool here at work that overode the ctrl-Z shortcut. It wasn’t destructive when I forgot, but it was a hassle to have to select undo from the menu each time. Now I’ve fortunately found out how to change the shortcut.
Just an unrelated story from the real world.
Unrelated stories are welcome here at Noscope. Please keep them coming.
In another unrelated story, I’m totally and utterly tired today. Completely wasted.
I don’t know if it’s unrelated since I’m also completely busted. I’ve had no energy all day, and it’s only gotten worse.
I felt pretty good yesterday, except that I fell asleep between Dyb?lsbro and Sydhavn on my way to work. Fortunately, I woke up before I got to Sj?l?r so I was only delayed 5 minutes, but it was a totally sureal experience.
Just for reference, on OS X Quicksilver can do all of this.
Dammit! I knew there was an elegant solution for OSX. Is there a Quicksilver for Windows?
There always is. I wish OSX was more like Widnows and Windows more like OSX. Dammit!
I hope you find something, I’d be interested too!
Well, there used to be Yankee Clipper, but it has become quite bloated and payware. Version 3 is always available, though, and still freeware.
Then, there’s HovText , but I didn’t get to play around seriously with it yet.
Quicksliver for Windows, now, that would be something! Using a variety of platforms, it is the utility I miss most while not on OS X. But nothing has emerged yet, AFAIK. Well, we can’t always have all the fun, can we?
While ugly as an airport, Yankee Clipper seems to do the job just fine!
CTRL + ALT + V shows a context menu with clipboard history. Perfect!
10 points to Mr. Serge. Thanks a lot.
Edit: Oh by the way, I tried HovText… it seems the only purpose of that app was to strip textual formatting from text copies to clipboards…
Happy to help! And I agree, it’s ugly…
I’m sure there where a couple other utilities back in the days. I’ll have to dig in some old hard drives, though. I’ll keep you posted.
@Michael
I’ve been using Quicksilver for a while now, but am sure there’s some tricks I haven’t discovered yet, how about a mini write up from a users perspective? What you use it for etc.. shortcuts you’ve learnt, etc… I still find it more useful than Spotlight.
Joen, sorry for going off-topic…
No worries… if this topic can help a few mac users then fine
Nik, I’ll see if I can’t throw something together.
Awesome! Cheers Michael, look forward to it.
Also worth mentioning is shadowClipboard, though again for OS X.
I know this is an older topic, but I found it as I did a search for a Windows version of QuickSilver, and I thought I’d let you know what I found.
There’s an app for Windows called PC-Con that is supposedly like QuickSilver, and in some ways a little more powerful. I haven’t used it myself, but I just thought I’d throw it out there. One website that talked about it was here: BlueSkyOnMars (see the article kinkless gtd now even smoother with quicksilver for comments. The article isn’t very useful.)
Also, there’s a fairly nice application for clipboard management called CLCL. You can get it here: Nakka.com . It’s very useful, and seems rather easy to use! I’ve used it many times since I got it a couple of weeks ago, as a developer it’s great!
Rich, thanks so much for that wonderful link! CLCL from Nakka.com is most definitely the best choice yet. It does everything I want it to. Fantastic!
