Favicon2Dots turns your favicon into a 3D dot projection. It works rather well and is a quite interesting way to see a 16×16 picture. For a future update, I’d wish for semitransparent pixels to be not quite as tall as the other dots.
What does your favicon look like?
Mine
My other
Ouch, the other, other one, doesn’t hold up well
But the other, other, other one, does, kinda
(Sorry for the spam)
Wow, not bad. This is most welcome spam.
I like the first two and the last. I notice you’re not using alpha transparency, though?
When I create favicons, I create a transparent, hi-color PNG and import it into Microangelo. It just works. You?

is not bad but nothing like a leaf when it is 16×16 px.
Nice toy.
I’d like to give a nice thoughtful response saying how it’s my policy not too. I’d include reasons like not knowing the bg colour that the favicon may have, as (for instance) my bookmarksbar has alternating bg colours.
The real reason is that I’ve just haven’t thought about it!
Particularly the last one could use it….hmmm.
The middle (third) one is supposed to be a cookie. It was a given logo and tweakingly blurred to look half-way decent at 16×16. See?
I create a PNG and use this html-kit page for converting them. Are you pleased with Microangelo? Does it just convert or do special stuff?
Also, if you want more favicons to play around with, delta tango bravo has a great list. For example this one looks great:
Here are a few nice ones:
Not too exciting:
I disagree. Such a detailed pic is especially interesting in large angled dotted 3d.
Haha, my comments really aren’t getting though!
(Must have spammed too much…..)
Ah yes, I see now!
Not especially. I download the trial version every time I need to convert the PNG, then uninstall it afterwards. It does work wonders, and I’m sure it creates better favicons than web alternatives, but I’d frankly like a free alternative.
Wow, that’s the first time ever Akismet has backstabbed me! If you hadn’t told me, I wouldn’t have recovered your comments!
Jonas,
This is a really good opportunity for me to ask: What does that favicon resemble ?? I know you use it on flickr as well!
Pretty neat! Joen, I like yours best, good use of transparency
Isn’t it the helmet (& head) of that Looney Tunes’ Marvin the Martian?
Could be.
I’ve always imagined it to be some sort of bear in a costume…
