As a rule of thumb, I try to avoid iTunes as much as possible, and since the iPad has thankfully untethered quite a bit since iOS 5, the only use-case I have left for iTunes is backup.

Currenlty the iPad in my wifes possesion is tethered to her old and janky Macbook. It would be really convenient if I could back up the iPad to her brand new iMac.

Why can’t I? No seriously?

Can you re-download purchased iTunes U stuff and podcasts like apps?

Re: the Chrome button, I’ve seen that — I check out the Canary build once in a while to see what’s new. I don’t think that’s as big a deal — and I suppose that’s the thing about icons vs. text — if it’s a button you’ll use ALL THE TIME, you’d learn what it did even if the new tab button was a minus.

It’s more iffy in cases like “Report Spam”, which I use more oftne than I like in Gmail, yet when I use it I stutter.

Fonts of the lifeline of any design. I used to disagree, but after mucking around with a few this year, I’m a complete font convert. What good is a design if you can’t read it? And, with so many easy tools out there (Typekit and Google Web Fonts to name a few), there’s hardly an excuse to settle for a basic font.

I’m also running TwentyEleven on my photoblog (in a dark configuration). And I used some of it as a base for this one. Can you tell that I’m a fan?

It’s also remarkable what a good font can to for you.

I’m really partial to dark themes lately, as I just made a similar change myself. It’s nothing as cool as this redesign, but I think I’m just getting tired of bright websites.

But as this is a big bet for Apple, and they generally don’t put up with core stuff that is flaky, I am sure that they will also beat out bugs until it works as well as googles stuff. Especially seeing as it’s the same approach to sync.

I knew the four testimonials on Macbreak Weekly constituted ridiculously anecdotal stats as a whole, but it appears to be working for many more people than I was led to believe.

if an app instantaneously and magically sends your changes to the contact/mail/etc on the fly or when you actually press send/save/whatever doesn’t really matter. If I save a bookmark to my reading list on my iPhone, it’s near instantaneously appears in my Safari browser – although it’s “just” sync. Let me tell you this: Yogi Berra doesn’t care. If it works, it works

Personally I never had iCloud sync issues, I simply “enabled”, everything sync’ed and I was i happy camper. But there _is_ problems for some people – no doubt about it. Just like I experienced problems in i.e.. Gmail in the beginning if I was writing an email and the internet connections suddenly disappeared.

iCloud is still new, it’s certainly needs maturing – just like Googles always-on approach certainly has matured over time (Remember back when there was no offline mode?)

Bottom line, I don’t see a reason to prefer one over the other – it’s just sync – Yogi Bear doesn’t care If you wan’t to buy a new phone or computer, I’m guessing there is a lot more relevant parameters.

I got it to work but i would like it to be at the bottom of every comment. I was working with this code:

WordPress changed the way they implemented the Recent drafts widget. Instead of defining it as a normal widget, define it as a side widget. It says on the codex.

Wikipedia is an excellent example, because even if there are donation drives, I don’t consider Wikipedia a “freemium” product. I consider it almost a public service, and I completely share your idealism. In fact I think Wikipedias ad-free model is part of the reason why individuals such as yourself spend their precious time for the greater good.

On the flipside, what if one day Wikipedias donation drives can’t muster the funds to keep the operation running? The operation is getting bigger every day by virtue of increasing popularity, and so do the expenses. If that day comes, and I hope and believe it doesn’t, I’d rather see ads on Wikipedia than see it go away, and I wouldn’t care if those ads were targetted or generic.

Ads on Wikipedia may sound preposterous on the face of it, but consider Wookieepedia and Memory Alpha, the Star Wars and Star Trek wikis. They’re hosted by ad supported Wikia. So at least a number of users will contribute despite ads.

And on the other hand, all the users can see their own dashboard. ‘manage_options’ capability is completely NOT the condition of browsing dashboard.

In fact, ‘wp_dashboard_setup’ hook is already promised to be triggered on browsing dashboard. It’s no need to judge capability, wp has done that.

So I think just remove “if(!current_user_can(‘manage_options’))” is necessary.
