Sure, but that's what I'm saying, that's silly.

As a rule of thumb, I try to avoid iTunes as much as possible, and since the iPad has thankfully untethered quite a bit since iOS 5, the only use-case I have left for iTunes is backup.

Currenlty the iPad in my wifes possesion is tethered to her old and janky Macbook. It would be really convenient if I could back up the iPad to her brand new iMac.

Why can't I? No seriously?

I think they look at it as syncing from your Mac *to* your iDevice, not the other way around. I guess they expect you to transfer your stuff from one Mac to another before you sync.

Can you re-download purchased iTunes U stuff and podcasts like apps?

Thanks!

Re: the Chrome button, I've seen that -- I check out the Canary build once in a while to see what's new. I don't think that's as big a deal -- and I suppose that's the thing about icons vs. text -- if it's a button you'll use ALL THE TIME, you'd learn what it did even if the new tab button was a minus.

It's more iffy in cases like "Report Spam", which I use more oftne than I like in Gmail, yet when I use it I stutter.

Related note: they've also recently taken out the + icon from the new tab icon in Chrome, in the betas it's just a blank button.

In the case of the spam icon, I do exactly the same, I hover over before I click. Which obviously means it's a bad design.

I'm completely confident in clicking the trash-can though.

Even though I've clicked it dozens of times I'll still hover over the spam icon for the tool tip to appear telling me the button's function.

Same with the delete button as I'm always fearful that I'll mark as spam some debug emails which will bite me later when I wonder where newer ones come through..

I much prefer text+icon.

Well, the code is on github at https://github.com/karmatics/aardvark/blob/master/www/aardvark/bookmarklet.js but I cannot get it to work in my chrome.

Including the raw js doesn't do anything and I am way to busy to debug this atm.

Cheers

Fix for "You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page." on this exellent plugin is to open the plugin file "color-wheel.styler.php" and go to the yellow form line, remove all text and have it just like this: form method="post" within the correct symbols of course. That's it, now it work like it's new!

Great plugin- I had a troubleshooting question. I had the galleries working great on a development site and when I took that site live, the gallery thumbnails show up but the main image is missing. Have you ever seen that before?

I tried deleting and re installing the plugin with the same result. Is there a DB table I need to delete before re installing the plugin?

The site is http://www.hensteinscustomcabinets.com/

Thanks for any help

I am in the process of redesigning my website as well. Like you I am going html5, and responsive - and I am trimming all sorts of visual clutter to make the design a lot simpler (although not this simple :))

Thanks for the tip on the jetpack notifications thing - I haven't used that before so will give it a go.

Twenty Eleven in definitely a great theme, and so easy to customize. In a way, it makes me eager to see how they'll top it with Twenty Twelve.

Fonts of the lifeline of any design. I used to disagree, but after mucking around with a few this year, I'm a complete font convert. What good is a design if you can't read it? And, with so many easy tools out there (Typekit and Google Web Fonts to name a few), there's hardly an excuse to settle for a basic font.

Thanks James.

I'm also running TwentyEleven on my photoblog (in a dark configuration). And I used some of it as a base for this one. Can you tell that I'm a fan?

It's also remarkable what a good font can to for you.

I'm loving the redesign, well done!

I'm really partial to dark themes lately, as I just made a similar change myself. It's nothing as cool as this redesign, but I think I'm just getting tired of bright websites.

Everything starts somewhere, and Hitchens certainly started something in me. I'm a skeptic, and proud to be. I've also learned that we cannot always reach a consensus , or even agree to disagree, not if one side of the argument is dangerously wrong.

I felt similarly on news of his passing.
How can a man who has such a grasp on language, logic, love of life and like you said, eloquence be taken from us all during his peak?
Surely this is a sufficiently large cavity in the thinking, writing and speaking worlds, one that may remain until someone of similar presence and fearlessness may take up the standard?
I feel we all do a disservice to Hitchens and each other by not being fully aware or exposed to his critique of humanity and his ability to reason. What an incredibly steadfast persona.
Great post.

This was a great post Joen. It is always amazing when we feel the loss of another human being so profoundly, especially when we had no real personal contact with them.

I was obviously not a fan of some of his ideology, but I had a profound respect for his eloquence, passion and tenacity. Any person's legacy is the people they inspired, touched and lifted up. It seems Hitch's legacy is alive and well.

I will miss him for the same reasons as you do. If I might offer up an 'anti-prayer'

Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people. The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness. To call on them to give up their illusions about their condition is to call on them to give up a condition that requires illusions. The criticism of religion is, therefore, in embryo, the criticism of that vale of tears of which religion is the halo. -Karl Marx

See, now we’re getting somewhere.

Did you add

.commentlist li {position: relative;
}

to your stylesheet as well?

And if you did, then it’s an issue with your theme, and you’ll have to look in your comments.php to find out the classname of the ul tag wherein your comments are.

It works seamlessly for me, and iCloud is intended to do exactly what you describe for google's stuff.
I think the difference people might be experiencing is that sync is one of those things that seem to be intrinsically difficult and full of weird little edge cases. These things seem to take some real life maturing before they work properly.
Google has had quite a few years of experience in this, and their stuff mostly works great (though google docs has started flaking out on me, more and more often in recent months).
Apple is just starting.

But as this is a big bet for Apple, and they generally don't put up with core stuff that is flaky, I am sure that they will also beat out bugs until it works as well as googles stuff. Especially seeing as it's the same approach to sync.

Interesting.

I knew the four testimonials on Macbreak Weekly constituted ridiculously anecdotal stats as a whole, but it appears to be working for many more people than I was led to believe.

That's good.

There isn't much of a difference imho.

if an app instantaneously and magically sends your changes to the contact/mail/etc on the fly or when you actually press send/save/whatever doesn't really matter. If I save a bookmark to my reading list on my iPhone, it's near instantaneously appears in my Safari browser - although it's "just" sync. Let me tell you this: Yogi Berra doesn’t care. If it works, it works :)

Personally I never had iCloud sync issues, I simply "enabled", everything sync'ed and I was i happy camper. But there _is_ problems for some people - no doubt about it. Just like I experienced problems in i.e.. Gmail in the beginning if I was writing an email and the internet connections suddenly disappeared.

iCloud is still new, it's certainly needs maturing - just like Googles always-on approach certainly has matured over time (Remember back when there was no offline mode?)

Bottom line, I don't see a reason to prefer one over the other - it's just sync - Yogi Bear doesn't care :) If you wan't to buy a new phone or computer, I'm guessing there is a lot more relevant parameters.

<strong><a href="#comment-17132" rel="nofollow">Anthony</a></strong>,

I got it to work but i would like it to be at the bottom of every comment. I was working with this code:

.commentlist li {
	position: relative;
}
a.comment_quote_link {
	position: absolute;
	right: 20px;
	top: 30px;
	z-index: 1;
}

i get it to the bottom but since the position is absolute it ends up in the middle of some of the longer comments any help?

Love your stars plug-in, but wondering if there is a way to have a few extras with it?
- Is there a way to add stars into the title of posts?
- Can there be 1/2 stars in order to indicate a move with a 3 1/2 stars not 4?

javascript:(function(){document.getElementById("thumb-pane").style.display="none";var c=document.getElementById("content-pane").style;c.left=0;c.width=""})()

First, thanks for an awesome plugin!!
Second, is there a way to put a little bit more space between my images? I am using the skull and cross bones html picture, and I would love them to be set a bit further apart. Thanks so much!

</blockquote>

You could insert the character for space before and after your character. The HTML entity for space is <code> </code>

WordPress changed the way they implemented the Recent drafts widget. Instead of defining it as a normal widget, define it as a side widget. It says on the codex.

As a long-time user of PDAs, it was a great feature to be able to remove the storage card from the old one and inserting it into the new (my HP iPaq had both SD and CF slots). Also, it was very easy to add things to the card via my computer using a separate card reader (or via synching). Maybe synching is possible via WiFI on the iPhone and cardless Android devices (I'm not interested in the "cloud" capabilities), but to me, selecting and sliding files (songs, documents, photos and so forth) onto a memory card and reinserting it into the PDA/smart phone was a breeze. I was highly disappointed to discover that the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus doesn't have an expansion slot--even if it would have been under the battery cover as it is on my Samsung Omnia 2 (a Windows-based smart phone). I hope WiFi will be easier to use to move documents, etc., than I currently imagine.

Wikipedia is an excellent example, because even if there are donation drives, I don't consider Wikipedia a "freemium" product. I consider it almost a public service, and I completely share your idealism. In fact I think Wikipedias ad-free model is part of the reason why individuals such as yourself spend their precious time for the greater good.

On the flipside, what if one day Wikipedias donation drives can't muster the funds to keep the operation running? The operation is getting bigger every day by virtue of increasing popularity, and so do the expenses. If that day comes, and I hope and believe it doesn't, I'd rather see ads on Wikipedia than see it go away, and I wouldn't care if those ads were targetted or generic.

Ads on Wikipedia may sound preposterous on the face of it, but consider Wookieepedia and Memory Alpha, the Star Wars and Star Trek wikis. They're hosted by ad supported Wikia. So at least a number of users <em>will</em> contribute despite ads.

Very interesting post, Joen. As someone who has contributed quite a bit of editing time to Wikipedia and several quotes to a crowd-sourced e-book, I have always felt that I have been contributing to a 'greater good' or that my contribution was philanthropic. I hadn't really considered it as an economic exchange where I was the blissfully unaware buyer. Yes, I can see a future tech where targeted ads appear based on your use of apps and browsers but will there be auto-deductions from your bank accounts?!

This code contains a fatal error on current_user_can function. Theme functions.php or plugin files are loaded BEFORE the wordpress initial functions defined. All the code should be included into a hook function and wait to be called by wordpress.

And on the other hand, all the users can see their own dashboard. 'manage_options' capability is completely NOT the condition of browsing dashboard.

In fact, 'wp_dashboard_setup' hook is already promised to be triggered on browsing dashboard. It's no need to judge capability, wp has done that.

So I think just remove "if(!current_user_can('manage_options'))" is necessary.

Do you have any plans to add 1/2 stars to this plugin? I know you described a workaround, but it would be great if this could be built in.

Thanks!

Hi. I see this has been asked before. But where does the .CSS go if you wish to use images instead of unicode? I put it in the main stylesheet for my theme. Did not work. I tried putting it into the ...shorttags.php file and that definitely didn't work. Thank you!
