The State of Things
Estimating the time a project takes is no easy task. In fact, it took me years to learn the Pi rule: multiply your rough estimate by 3.14 and there’s your best bet at a close estimate. Even so, I’m still equally surprised at the amount of time, some projects take.
This is a resume of the current state of things at Noscope.
Commenting Improvements
Not many days ago, I mentioned I would be making some improvements as to how comments work here. First up was an implementation of Brian’s Threaded Comments. As you might notice, it’s not here yet.
Despite hard work, and some great improvements on my local test server, I’m just not satisfied yet. It’ll be a while still, before anything goes online.
By the way, can anyone tell me how to setup a development SQL database on a local IIS Personal Web Server?
Shuttle & Other Projects
Not long ago, I was invited to help design a new backend for WordPress, dubbed Shuttle. While the latest developments on that front look great, I simply haven’t had the time it deserves. I hope this will change sooner, rather than later.
The same accounts for some of my other personal projects, one of which I teased would be a secret soon to be revealed. It’s still secret, but it might take a while longer before it is revealed.
Beside that, I have several other things I want to do. Some will have to be postponed, some will have to wait indefinitely.
Some of the Plans
Here’s an incomplete list of some of the things I’ve had to postpone. Rest assured that they are being thought about, planned, developed or written. This list is in no particular order:
- A Noscope redesign
- Review of Kent’s new album
- Fix my damn photography section
- Noscope April installment, which might be 1920′s movie posters, nuclear fallout protection posters, mars themed, or simply 5 music-led paintings/drawings
- An article about the politics of behaviourism, and why nucular is not a word
- An article about dull usability (not useability, for the love of god!), and why you’re a bad webdesigner if you brush it off as limiting your creativity
As you can see, those are some exciting things. Stay glued to Noscope to see what strange and wonderful thing happens next!
- Copenhagen Cycling Culture
- The State of Things
- Joshuaink, Flowers & Hippies
- Disney Plans Pixar Sequels
Damn, no particular order :( Well, surprise us then!
Yes — grab a Windows version of Apache2 and install it alongside your favorite flavour of PHP and MySQL. I’ve got all of those at least installed on each of my computers — even when I’m on my laptop I just run a batch file and everything starts up for testing. Works great.
I’ve got a very similar list of posts/ideas/fixes for my site… it’s a very helpful way to lay out things so that when you have free time and no on-the-spot thoughts, you can just pick from the list. It’s nice to see yours, but now I won’t be surprised! That’s not true probably. I look forward to seeing those things materialize in surprising ways. :)
sounds like a full plate!
welcome back, friend of friends….
That “to-do” list is a full plate. I will stay glued to noscope (as usual), but I guess I should also try to do some of the things on my own list. Too bad about the sliding timelines, I for one can’t wait to learn what the secret project is.
Indeed, and I can’t wait to reveal it. Or rather, have time to finish it enough to reveal it.
The nuclear fallout protection posters sounds like a cool idea for the next installment, although now I’ve said you’re gonna say that you are doing one of the others right?
Del,
Actually I ended up doing neither of the mentioned ones. I made some pointless 3d graphics with lighting effects.
May won’t see the dawning of any of those themes either, as I’ve decided to do something completely different. It’ll be sort of old tyme puppet theatre themed graphics inspired by those seen during the end credits of Lemony Snicket — a movie I can heartily recommend, by the way.
That means nuclear fallout protection posters are currently loosely scheduled for June, until I change my mind again :)
