Liquid Is The New Fixed
Lately I’ve found myself warming up to liquid width designs for websites. By liquid width, I’m referring of course to a design whose width adapts to the available browser real estate.
Perhaps it’s the stale verticality of weblogs, perhaps it’s merely because screens and resolutions are growing. In any case, I find myself going liquid more often than fixed.

Yes, well, I’m working on a whole design paradigm that I intend to call Newtonian. It’s liquid and fixed and not! Ha!
Seriously, stop giving me ideas. I request a moratorium on ideas until I finish my next design.

A bit funny, I’m actually thinking of going fixed (my current design is liqiud, but annoys the hell out of me at 1600 × 1200). I have some inspirations that I might turn to when I transfer Susan’s site to WordPress (something that is long overdue), pink might be involved…

So, were just ignoring IE then? I thought IE didn’t have support for one or both of those.
Joen, id like to learn liquid design, well i would like to learn css too.. im so shit at programming of anysort.. but css and liquid designs is what i am looking for… any help?

Is everyone here starting to just not want to deal with IE and its idiosyncrosies? It seems Michael at binarybonsai has already started to forget about IE, simply stating “Binary Bonsai does not support IE. Life is simply too short”
What’s the deal? Or is this something that deserves another post?

Yes. It’s not simply a matter of idiosyncrasies. It is an interminable stubborness of Microsoft that they are not idiosyncratic. The differences between WebKit and Mozilla and Opera, those are idiosyncracies. Internet Explorer is just down right hostile towards some semblance of standards.
Quite simply, I’m done with hacks. Those that visit my site are bright enough to be using Firefox or some other compliant browser. Those that insist on using IE, I’ve told them often enough to get with the program. I can only beat a dead horse but so many times. After a while, you’re just making a bloody mess.
