I, once again, completely agree with you. My only consolation is that I too was reared in a hyper-religious/bible-to-be-literally interpreted environment. The short version, I came to realize that unquestioning faith was incompatible with my curious mind. What’s more, I simply cannot abide those who believe that their way, their belief system is absolutely perfect for everyone, everywhere, at all times. Finally, in my studies, it was obvious to me that translation from one language to another could be, and often times is, fraught with problems. To think that there is a group like the one mentioned above, makes me think that at best they are misguided and desparate for a sense of security, and at worst, a nasty freakish cult.

At least telling someone that there is a God who loves them and they should help others will actually benefit our world and not harm it as much as the alternatives…

Basically, I would rather be a Christian told to love others than a Muslim told to kill others.

I would rather be a Christian told to give money to support the poor than a proper businessman told to only care about the bottom line.

So, if all you can do is complain about the ?brainwashed? help that Christians have given the world – I say you haven?t seen enough of this world yet. ;]

The idea that good moral values are unique to christians is narrowminded, and makes me want to say you haven’t seen enough of this world yet.

Every single being, even those of us who are faithless, have a sense of right and wrong (except maybe psychopaths, by definition).

Who says you have to be a christian to donate to charity? I’ve donated to Amnesty and Unicef on a monthly automated basis for 4 years now, and I’ve been agnostic one of those years, and atheist the rest. There are actually more types of people than terrorists, christians, and “proper businessmen that only care about the bottom line”.

Being godless, I feel a genuine sense of wonder at the complexity of our world. The idea that tiny particles have created plants, animals, people, stars and galaxies is mindboggling and very fulfilling. I suppose some would call this sense of wonder “god”, but even as an atheist I can marvel at it, and see why this world is worth protecting.

The huge difference between me and those extremist wacko christians depicted in this film is that I do not believe we’ll ever be called back to god in the great rapture, so I actually want to take care of this one world we do have.

all those things you alphabetically mentioned are done by your christian friends. ultimately, this world would be a better place if religion didn’t exist.

Just look at our world:

A. Someone tells you that you are a monkey on its way to evolutionary oblivion.

B. Someone tells you that America is the great Satan and that you must die for Allah.

C. Someone tells you that you should be in love with someone your same sex.

D. Someone tells you that you are a worthless slave.

E. Someone tells you to hate/kill people of a different color.

F. Someone tells you to do whatever it takes to become rich because that is all life is about.

etc..
