Photoshop Is So Slow …

    11:44 on November 21st, 2008 , ,

Photoshop is so slow, it should have a calendar instead of a splash screen.
Photoshop is so slow, a turtle tried to marry it, but Photoshop was late for the wedding and the turtle ended up marrying Windows 95 instead.
Photoshop is so slow, Adobe pondered renaming it “Please wait…”.
Photoshop is so slow, that these jokes were [...]

Photoshop Icons Through The Ages

    16:13 on November 10th, 2008 ,

Thanks to GUIdebook and John Nack, I’ve managed to collect a nice little gallery of Photoshop icons since v. 0.87. To be quite honest, I’m not sure I like any of them enough to pick a favourite. Points to Thomas Knoll for the very first icon, which is actually a photo shop.

Deconstructing ‘En Afton I Sverige’ Poster

    10:25 on September 24th, 2008 , , ,

It’s been a while since I did any “deconstructions”—animated GIF files showing the various incremental steps in a design—but I was suddenly inspired to do it again.

The above is one of my personal favourite posters deconstructed. I did the poster simply as an invitation to a night of good music in a house in [...]

Fairly Quick Thoughts About Photoshop CS4s New User Interface

    12:31 on June 06th, 2008 , , ,

Photoshop—the image app that does all the things the free alternatives do, plus those extra few things we just need—is scheduled for a fall update dubbed CS4. Judging by the above screenshot by John Nack, the entire suite is getting a massive UI overhaul. I have comments on that.
First up, an observation. Ever since Photoshop [...]

Creating Microworlds In Photoshop

Round Worlds

It started with some beautiful pictures by Russian artist Alexandre Duret-Lutz and moved on to a discussion: how was this done? Well, the following technique might not be exactly the same one, but at least it’s really quick and rather hilarious.

It’s A Round World

Beautiful rounded pictures by Alexandre Duret-Lutz. Unless the chap has a really wierd camera, I would guess it’s the work of Photoshops “polar coordinates” filter, combined with a little careful retouching. Well done.

The New Adobe Photoshop Logo: It’s A P

    20:09 on September 19th, 2007 , ,

It only makes sense. After all, it’s been almost 10 months since the last rebranding. It’s about time. Right out of the blue (heh heh): it’s the new logo for the Photoshop “family” of applications.
Let’s put on our scrutinizing academic design goggles for a second and look at the significance of this design.

It’s a [...]

Creating Smoke In Photoshop From Scratch

Smoke - How To

Using Photoshop and a specific technique, it’s rather easy to create something that looks like smoke or fog — from scratch. It’s not as good as actual smoke photographed on a black background, but it’s much easier to come by. Here’s the trick…

Adobe CS3 Icons

    20:50 on December 21st, 2006 , , ,

Adobe has released a color wheel showing the new Adobe CS3 icons. But wait, a color wheel? Yep. As it turns out, the new brand includes icons that are simply colored squares with periodic-table-of-the-elements like names; Ai for Illustrator, Ps for Photoshop, Fl for Flash.
Sure, I recognize a … ahem … whole palette of [...]
